Cristiano Ronaldo could pass anything apart from mirror and is the greatest player Ryan Giggs ever played with
The Welsh wing-wizard has revealed that while the Portuguese could fly past defenders and shoot over and around walls and goalkeepers, he could never pass a mirror without a long and lingering look.
Giggs even reckons the Real Madrid hero was vainer than Brylcreem posterboy David Beckham but he could afford to fancy himself as he was the finest footballer the iconic No11 ever worked with during his trophy-laden Old Trafford career.
Giggs said: “People forget he had a difficult start, but he did – and still does – everything he can to be the best.
“He’s an unbelievable athlete and player – the best I played with.
“He was really good to have around the dressing room – until you needed the mirror.
“First, it was Becks, who sat there, and, when Cristiano came, he replaced Becks next to the mirror.
“So, you could forget it if you wanted to use the mirror – you’d have to wait!”
Long before the iconic No7 shirt was worn by Ron or Beckham, it belonged to the Old Trafford bad-boy who somehow never got Sir Alex Ferguson’s hairdryer.
While all the Class of ’92 was kept in check – forced to look sharp and work hard – King Eric Cantona got away with plenty under the usually strict Scotsman, including crimes against fashion as he was part of the old school that won the crucial 1996 title.
Giggs said: ““Eric got away with murder – he never got the hairdryer.
“We’d go to a black-tie do, my tie wouldn’t be straight or Nicky Butt’s top button undone and he’d rip into us.
“The next minute Eric would walk in with a white linen suit and red trainers and Sir Alex would turn to us and say, ‘Look at that – that’s style!’
“Me and Nicky would be going to each other: ‘for f***’s sake!'
“Eric was a big character in those days, but not the biggest because Roy Keane was quite a big character too.
“People point to the young lads in that 1996 title-winning team and won their first championship, but it was guys like Schmeichel, Keane, Cantona and Bruce who really won it.”
