Veteran midfielder reveals invites have been sent out to Red Devils legends for June date
CRISTIANO RONALDO and Carlos Tevez will once again wear a Manchester United shirt this summer, if Michael Carrick gets his way.
An eleven from the Red Devils’ 2008 Champions League-winning squad will play an All-Star team on June 4 for Carrick’s testimonial.
Club legends Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville are already confirmed to play in the match to honour the midfielder’s 11 years of service at Old Trafford.
And now Carrick has revealed invites have also been sent to Shanghai Shenhua’s Tevez and Real Madrid’s Ronaldo – both starters in the famous victory over Chelsea.
With the Argentine striker based on the other side of the globe, and the Portuguese star possibly being double booked because of the Champions League final the day previous, the duo have been unable to commit.
Carrick told the Manchester Evening News: “I had contact with Carlos before he went to China and he said he would have loved to played but didn’t know where he would be playing so he didn’t know.
“That’s part of the reason I can’t confirm it’s the whole team because some of the lads are doing different things.
“From 2008, for everyone, there’s loads gone on but whatever has gone on, you can’t take that away, that feeling we had and what we achieved together.
“It would be great to get every single player together. I’ve spoken to Ronaldo but it’s the Champions League final the day before.
“Who knows. There’s a reason I can’t say 100 per cent who everyone is going to be there. But most of them will be there.”
Should Tevez feature, it will be the first time he will have worn a United shirt since his controversial switch to neighbours Manchester City in 2009.
Despite Ronaldo following him out the door to join Madrid later that same year, he still remains an icon to the club’s supporters.
